Modern Bathroom Renovation in Newburyport, MA – A Custom Vanity Installation for Michelle

In August of 2022, we had the pleasure of working with Michelle on a full bathroom renovation project in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The goal was to completely transform her outdated bathroom into a clean, modern retreat with custom cabinetry and smart use of space. This blog will walk you through the renovation process, from design and demolition to custom build and final install—highlighting key craftsmanship challenges we overcame along the way.

Demolition & Prep Work

The original bathroom layout posed several challenges. The existing vanity was dated and ill-fitting, and the plumbing and electrical rough-ins were not positioned ideally for the new custom cabinetry design. During demolition, we took great care to preserve wall integrity and prep the area for our new installations, including installing in wall supports. Our team worked with licensed professionals to relocate both plumbing supply lines and electrical outlets to accommodate Michelle’s desired double vanity setup.

To ensure a perfect fit, we used custom scribes during the layout phase to accommodate walls that were far from square. Every piece was carefully templated, especially around corners and floor transitions, which is essential for getting cabinetry to align properly with walls and tilework.

Custom Cabinetry Design & Fabrication

Michelle selected a sleek, modern style for her bathroom. We built a double vanity with integrated drawer fronts and slab-style doors for a modern look. The cabinet boxes were built from pre-finished birch plywood with dovetail drawer construction to ensure durability.

All door and drawer fronts were CNC-machined in-house to achieve exact sizing and sharp, clean edges. After CNC milling, the fronts received a custom-mixed paint finish—a cool gray pigment with a matte sheen, perfectly tailored to coordinate with the patterned tile floor and white quartz countertops.

Difficulties During Install

Installation began mid-August and took two full days. The biggest challenge we faced was routing plumbing through the cabinetry without sacrificing storage space. As part of our process, we designed internal cutouts behind the drawer backs and within the cabinet bottoms to allow water lines and drainpipes to pass through while maintaining a finished look. We also had to notch around existing floor tile and ensure the vanity’s cleat system mounted securely to both studs and masonry.

Despite the complexity, the result was a seamless and flush install that made the vanity look like it was always part of the space.

Final Result & Client Response

Michelle was thrilled with the final product—a beautiful, modern bathroom with fully custom cabinetry tailored to her home’s needs. The floating vanity not only gave the space a clean, airy feel but also provided ample storage with soft-close hardware and easy maintenance features.

We’re proud of the craftsmanship our team brought to this project—from careful prep work and precise CNC fabrication to the technical aspects of plumbing integration. It’s projects like this that remind us why we love creating custom solutions for homes in Newburyport and throughout the North Shore.

Stay tuned for our next transformation!
